About Me
I am currently a IT Service Manager, who oversees a team of technicians who provide technical support for almost a hundred clients in the State of Michigan.
I have been at this gig for a few years, refining my technical skills as a technician, and now working on my “soft” skills as a manager.
This role has been awesome for me, as I’ve been getting more exposer to make decisions and guiding the company in a specific direction.
The Problem in Technology (If You Aren’t Careful)
The problem in the technology industry is that it is real easy to stop learning. When you get comfortable in a role, it’s easy to not want to learn new things. Why would you learn something you’re not good at? You’re currently KILLING it where you are.
Except you aren’t.
Sit in the same role you have for 3 years too long and you will have missed out on learning at least SIX new things.
I cannot tell you how many courses exist out there that can train you a new skill in 6 months (easily). Whether it’s coding, cloud computing, or studying for a certification, there is a plethora of things to learn.
If it is true that you can learn a new skill in 6 months, then not learning for 3 years could be SIX DIFFERENT SKILLS YOU DIDN’T LEARN.
How I’m Learning a Couple Skills in the next 6 months (Udemy Courses)
I just purchased two courses on Udemy academy. One is on coding in Python, and the other is how to become AWS associate certified.
I plan on spending an hour every day or so learning these, because I want to keep myself sharp and learn new things.
